SuperPico Cellular Radio
SuperPico Cellular Radio, advanced picocell technology for rural cellular solutions
STM’s SuperPico™ GSM cellular radios provide the RF front-end for a complete GSM Base Station Subsystem (BSS). Each SuperPico cellular radio implements one GSM transceiver (TRX) with the RF transmit power and receiver sensitivity necessary to implement large cell sizes (typically 5 to 10 km). Gain controls also allow for indoor, shipboard, emergency services and other forms of short range operation. All major GSM bands are supported (850, 900, 1800 and 1900 MHz) using any common omni or sector antennas. Connections to the BSS Controller are made digitally via 100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, ensuring no losses over long cable runs. This allows the radios to be placed optimally, close to the antennas, resulting in an ideal solution for rural GSM applications. See datasheet below.

Features & Benefits:

Long and Short Range Operation

The SuperPico cellular radio delivers the RF power (up to 2 watts) and receiver sensitivity to support the large cells required for serving rural or remote areas, as well as the gain controls to serve a variety of short range applications, including urban in-filling, in-building, marine, military, and emergency service environments.

Low Power Consumption per TRX

Each cellular radio has a highly efficient, linear power amplifier, yielding one of the industry's lowest power consumption per TRX for large, outdoor cells.

Digital Signal I/O via Ethernet

Advanced FPGA technology in each cellular radio converts GSM waveforms to/from digital signals transmitted over Ethernet cabling for better signal quality and flexibility in positioning radios relative to the BSS.

All GSM Services: 2G to 2.75G

The unit supports the delivery of all common GSM user services: FR and EFR voice telephony, SMS, GPRS, and EDGE. Optional AMR vocoders yield double capacity and increased backhaul efficiency, while retaining exchellent voice quality.

All GSM Bands with 0.05 ppm Stability

STM's family of SuperPico Cellular Radios support all common GSM bands: 850, 900, 1800 and 1900. Each radio supports one band, set at the factory, with 0.05 ppm frequency stability assured by an on-board crystal reference oscillator. (No GPS unit required).

Ruggedized High Reliability

The rugged, aluminum housing acts as a heat sink; it contains no fans or moving parts and is IP66 sealed to withstand dust and water immersion. The unit supports outdoor temperatures and has a 15 year MTBF rating.
