STM offers efficient cellular backhaul solutions via satellite for any type of cellular or terrestrial wireless technology. In addition, STM has developed the SuperPico system for GSM networks that can be integrated tightly with our SatLink VSAT system and other backhaul technologies to reduce both OPEX and CAPEX for expansions of GSM networks to rural and other underserved areas. Cellular Backhaul

Efficient satellite backhaul is provided for the most common types of cellular technologies. Two satellite connectivity options are offered:

• Traditional SCPC links for large BTS or BSC sites
• IP-based satellite links with Bandwidth-on-Demand (BoD) using STM’s advanced SatLink technology

Both options employ special compression technologies to assure maximum efficiency.

STM can provide cellular backhaul solutions under various terms, with or without the space segment (i.e., satellite bandwidth) included. In addition to equipment and space segment, STM provides services for:

SuperPico BTS/BSC for Rural GSM Network Expansions

With the release of STM’s new SuperPico system, STM can offer operators of GSM networks a complete BTS/BSC solution when expanding to rural and other underserved areas (e.g., urban in-filling, in-building coverage, trains, ships, services, supplementary event coverage). Both CAPEX and OPEX are greatly reduced relative to traditional BTS/BSC solutions.

The SuperPico system is a highly compact, all IP-based BTS with very low-power consumption, yet it has RF output power to support ranges up to 15 km. Voice, SMS, GPRS and EDGE services, and all GSM bands (850, 900, 1800, 1900) are offered. Based on advanced picocell technology, the SuperPico BTS supports either a central or local BSC function to optimize performance and backhaul efficiency. An optional integrated SatLink VSAT modem for satellite backhaul or IP-based terrestrial backhaul can be used.
