Leadership in Fiber and Wireless Technologies and Standards |
|
STM has a 20-plus year record of foresight and leadership in research, development and commercialization of MF-TDMA (Multi-Frequency, Time Division Multiple Access) systems – the leading technology in cellular and satellite networking for interactive communications. In the 1980s, STM introduced ground-breaking MF-TDMA technology and followed up in the 1990s with high-capacity carrier-class voice/data network systems. Continuing in the 2000s, STM introduced integrated switched telephony, dynamic bandwidth allocation, traffic engineering and advanced quality of service (QoS) features for IP networks to enable tiered billing, multiple media, and GSM voice over satellite with maximum spectrum efficiency. STM also pioneered mesh networking among VSATs for further performance and efficiency gains. For fiber solutions, STM uses physical and logical ring topologies for non-stop availability, and creates infrastructure suitable for customers in developing areas. STM combines innovative research and development (R&D) to deliver proven solutions with advanced features based on industry standards that have long-term industry and government backing. Staffed by an international team of seasoned experts located in Norway and California, STM’s R&D organization has delivered many “industry firsts” since the 1980s. Through close partnership with its customers as both a product and service vendor, STM has the experience and insight to build solutions that are focused on the economic drivers, reliability factors and application benefits that customers care about most Now STM is leading innovation in MF-TDMA technologies through its own R&D efforts and its leadership of an industry consortium, under sponsorship with the European Space Agency, to advance technologies aimed at future versions of the DVB-RCS standards. STM is also leading with innovation in technology for rural cellular GSM solutions and turnkey fiber systems.
