ISPs

servicescontactbutton.jpgFor ISPs, STM offers a variety of network deployment and expansion options using advanced, standards-based VSAT technology to offer broadband services to customers beyond the reach of terrestrial broadband connections.

For larger ISPs, STM can supply and install complete turnkey SatLink hub and VSAT systems dedicated to the ISP. These hubs can be provided with carrier-class high availability and massive scalability for up to 100,000’s of VSATs per hub. SatLink hubs a

nd VSATs are fully compliant with the international VSAT standards (DVB-RCS ), but also have many special features and optimizations that go beyond the standards. Ku band or Ka band and hybrid Ku-Ka networks can be built,

using one or multiple satellites. SatLink’s advanced bandwidth management and QoS capabilities allow ISPs to offer a variety of services to businesses and residential users, including standard Internet access at various contention ratios and speeds, high-quality VoIP and Video Conferencing services, and

digital video (MPEG4) distribution and video feed services over IP, among others.

For medium and smaller ISPs – and those larger ISPs where VSAT access is only supplementary to terrestrial connectivity – STM recommends partitioned or shared hub services as offered through STM's global teleports. With superior design and versatility, STM's Global Teleport Services eliminate the complexity of deploying and managing your own hub and VSAT network. STM's teleports are also built on STM’s leading SatLink technology.

In a partitioned hub service, satellite bandwidth and certain components of the hub are dedicated to the ISP. In a shared hub service satellite bandwidth is shared dynamically with other customers of the same hub, but bandwidth management policies assure a minimum guaranteed bandwidth.

In both cases, the ISP has access to the SatLink Virtual Network Operator (VNO) services to allow the ISP to take direct control and manage, if desired, VSAT adds & moves, the bandwidth and QoS policies for different VSAT groups or individual VSATs, and other features of their service offering. ISPs with their own SatLink hubs can also take advantage of the VNO capabilities to allow their customers to manage their own VSATs.

For ISPs with limited public address space available, STM can conserve usage of that space by assigning only one public IP address per VSAT and then applying NAT services at each VSAT to support large numbers of devices on each VSAT. This approach is also recommended to increase security for end-user devices, protecting them from attacks originating on the Internet.
